Bai M. N. Gamadia Girls' High School

History

“Gamadia Girls’ High School”, where it stands today, was established in 1917. Its governing body, the “Parsee Girls’ School Association”, was started in the year 1858. Our school, formerly known as the ‘Chandanwadi School’, was situated at Chandanwadi, Princess Street, right from its inception in 1858. But for want of suitable premises and to accommodate the growing number of Parsee girls in the school, Mr. Nowrosji Gamudia – a visionary philanthropist, contributed wholly and entirely to the cost of the construction of the present building of our school in memory of his wife Bai Maneckbai.

From the modest beginning with a few students, our school has developed into a full-fledged High School. The board of Trustees and the Members of the Managing Committee form the governing body of PGSA even today.

Our school includes the subject of Home Science at the SSC level. It also houses a well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratory for the subject of science, an Audio – Visual room, and a computer laboratory. Computer-education is imparted to girls from Std. III onwards.

Well-qualified staff at both primary and secondary levels imparts sound education, keeping in view the individual attention to even the slow learners in each class. The discipline maintained among the students is a matter of great pride for all of us.

Our school has had the unique honour of having hundred per cent results almost every year, at the SSC Board Exams.

Our students excel in sports, elocution, drawing, Indian classical music, western classical music, cooking, Eskrima (a martial art from The Philippines), Guiding & Ballet. A large number of students participate in the interschool and the inter-house competitions. Religious Instruction is also imparted to all the Parsee students of the school. Scholarships are given to deserving students.
